My name is Christian Gee and this is my story. I am 42 years old and have spent the majority of my adult life in Australia, emigrating from the UK at the age of 23. I have had a successful career in both the body building and fitness industry spanning over 20 years. During this time I won a number of titles including the IFBB Heavy weight Mr Australia title in 2010 which was at the pinnacle of my career. During the course of my whole career I had also lived a double life using all kinds of drugs including methamphetamine otherwise known as Ice. Needless to say this lifestyle was very hard to maintain and to hide. It was aggressively destructive not only to my career, but to my personal life as well. Over the years it corroded and took away everything I had ever worked hard for. Worst of all it corrupted who I was as a person as I compromised my morals, ethics and my standards of personal living.
This all came to a head in 2016 where I had reached rock bottom. My addiction to drugs was at an all time high and I had lost everything. My apartment, my car, my job, but worst of all I had lost my friends and was rapidly losing my family. I came to the sobering realisation that I could not win this battle against drugs in my own strength, So I sought help and was accepted into the Shalom House rehabilitation program. Piece by piece I started to successfully rebuild my life and who I stood for as a person as I implemented all the tools I was learning. I realised that in order to make lasting change, I had to change from the inside out.
I learnt to walk in transparency and honesty, in truth, responsibility and forgiveness. I had to operate out of a place that nourishes the soul and instills all the core values and morals in the human spirit. It was placed on my heart during my time at Shalom that I wanted to equip young men and women with the skills and tools they need to tackle all of life’s challenges. So I designed a unique mentoring program helping young people to make right choices. The strength training helps me build relationship with them as I gain their respect and trust. This gives me an opportunity to speak into their lives and have them listen and pay attention to all I have to teach.
I am currently operating the BIG Program at the Communicare Academy in Kenwick, Churchlands SHS and Banksia Hill Detention centre. I have also worked for a season at Rossmoyne SHS and given talks to the Eagles footy club as well as other youth groups across the Perth Metro area. I see the students growing in self confidence and motivation and we talk about and discuss many real life issues that young men and women face growing into adulthood.
My vision is to implement this program into schools across the metro WA area as there is a huge drug problem in our state and it is wiping out families and destroying the lives of young people in our society.
